Altered art book.

Posted on

I’ve been working on this altered art book for years now. I do a little bit then leave it until I’m inspired to do some more. But my goal is to get this one finished this year then work on my other ones.

I love this kind of art because you can just go crazy. There are no rules. Just grab your glue, paint, charms, paper, embellishments, ribbon and beads and go for it.

This book is my favorite children’s story. The Water Babies. Someone read it to me when I was a little girl and I’ve loved it since. I picked this book up from a garage sale. It’s vintage and needed some love. So I’ve been giving it lots and lots of love.

Here are some of the pages I’ve done so far.

Please tell me what you think.  I’d love to see your altered art if you make it.

June 21 Garage Sale Haul

It was disgusting weather at home. Total white out from the fog as you can see in the photos. So we didn’t think we would get much today.

But we did really well. Greg got his Rugby t-shirt, 2 Pyrex casserole dishes and a men’s watch set all for a few dollars. Then he got this great Pizza cooker for $5.00. Brand new. Not even opened. Wow! I’m so pleased because he doesn’t always get things.

I got 11 brand new strands of Gemstone beads, 2 pairs of new shoes, a pill box, 2 little bird ornaments, a gorgeous pink colander, 2 balls of pink wool, 2 vintage bags for my shop and a summer hand bag for me.

Then I got my head model which I’ve been after for displaying my earrings in my photo shoots for my shop.  They are pretty expensive but I got this girl for $5.00. Amazing.

All up I spent exactly $15.00 which is how much I took with me. Isn’t that incredible?

Garage sale haul.

I hit pay dirt this Saturday when I got to the first Garage Sale of the day. I only had $10 to spend so when I saw this 55LTR box of brand new jewellery making supplies my heart sank. I just knew I was going to miss out on some treasure as she had $25.00 on it.

I asked her how much per item and she said $3.00 each, so it just wasn’t worth breaking up the lot. So I had a good look at the stuff on top and decided to ask her if she’d take $10.00, knowing it would never happen.

Well, she said, ‘yes’. Can you imagine how hard it was not to hyperventilate.  Very calmly I gave her the money. Greg lifted it into the car complaining how heavy it was. I was thinking the heavier the better.

There wasn’t even anything else I wanted at the rest of the Garage sales. But it was so hard driving around with that big box on the seat behind me.

As soon as I got home I dove in and WOW! there is treasure in there. It’s taken me a day and a half so far to sort it all out.

There is loads of glass beads, gemstones and Gemstone beads, Swarovski Crystals, wooden carved  beads and boxes of findings.  There’s lots of Polymer clay beads, glass pearl beads, Fresh water pearl beads, silver beads, gold beads, Books, chain, wire and wire mesh. And lots and lots of storage containers.

There are even some beautiful pendants. Carved shell, glass and a gorgeous Druzy Agate slice.

It’s like all my Christmas’s have come at once. Any yes I said a big thank you prayer.

New jewellery

I’ve been hard at work making lots of new jewellery. I’m making my new Spring Designs. Lots of lovely spring colors and charms for the new season.
I’m really enjoying making at the moment. I love to sketch my idea then watch as it comes to life.
I’ll be photographing and listing them over the next week in my etsy shop.
Here are some picks.
